About Choice of Profession and the Role of Interest in It

March 23rd, 2010

As I already wrote I gained a lot of knew experiences the last days during the IK. Especially with regard to making the decision for a Master program. During all the thoughts about what I want to do later I came to an insight that I have not seen in any advising text.

Play, Act and Learn and Eating, Fun and much more

March 20th, 2010

The last week was very exciting and I don’t really know where to begin. I was at the Interdisciplinary College (IK), a spring school with courses from the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Neuro Biology, Psychology, Cognitive Sciences and some other. This year’s focus theme was “Play, Act and Learn”. The event was placed in the Heinrich-Lübke-Haus in Günne at Lake Möhne.

I just uploaded a presentation of the paper “Maturation of Widely Distributed Brain Function Subserves Cognitive Development” by Beatriz Luna et al. I done this presentation in a seminar at university. I also renamed the “School” category to “Reports etc.”, because I will also use it for works done at the university, now.

I also want to mention that I discontinued my hosting offer for several reasons.

The Wall

February 22nd, 2009

Saturday evening I attended the concert “The Wall – in its entirety” by The Australian Pink Floyd Show (or just Aussiefloyd) in the AWD-Hall in Hannover. About a year ago I already wrote about The Australien Pink Floyd Show. This band is a Pink Floyd tribute band, which wants to play the music of Pink Floyd as near to the original as possible. The Wall may not be the favorite album of each Pink Floyd fan, but live its absolutly awesome!

Before I go on with further details I want to warn you that I may spoil one or two surprises.

Nowadays Everyone has Fast Internet …

January 11th, 2009

… or not? I hadn’t some days ago: When I was sitting in a train I suddenly remembered that I wanted to bid in an eBay auction. Moreover this train would not have arrived until this auction has ended. Luckily modern mobile phones are able to access the world wide web, the datarates are also respectable with UMTS and the costs are acceptable in such “emergency situations”.

So I bootet my Macbook, connected to my mobile phone via Bluetooth, typed the eBay-URL into Firefox and waited and waited and waited … As it has to be I had no UMTS net on the railroad, just GPRS which is very slow. Moreover the ebay front page has several graphics included. Finally I needed 15 minutes to click me through the eBay pages and to submit my bidding.

What do we learn from this? Even nowadays it is important to design webpages in a way that not too much data has to be transmitted. Whereby I have to admit that my homepage is not build in this way entirely. Perhabs I might retouch this page.

By the way, the time a webpage needs to load can be measured at this website: http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/index.html

DnD Fight

July 25th, 2008

Last night I was playing Dungeons and Dragons with a couple of friends. We figured out that the Smartie packings match exactly 2 fields and used them as sarcophagus. The rubber in the center should be sword which is stuck in the ground ;)

Great fight!

I have to say that I really like the fourth edition of Dungeons and Dragons. Especially being the DM is much more fun IMO.
